Research

Conducting research is an obligation for every lecturer, entrusted by the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This necessitates the presence of an institution within a university that manages the research carried out by lecturers. With the existence of research, it is expected that scientific knowledge will continue to evolve, ultimately contributing to the knowledge transferred to students. Additionally, practical discoveries are anticipated that can be utilized by the community.

The research carried out by State Polytechnic of Malang is globally divided into two categories:

  1. Self-funded Research (DIPA)
  2. Grant-funded Research

(Note: “DIPA” stands for “Daftar Isian Pelaksanaan Anggaran,” which translates to “List of Expenditure Implementation” and often refers to self-funded or internally funded research within an institution.)

Self-funded Research (DIPA)

To ensure that innovation and the development of science and technology can contribute to problem-solving in development, research and community service activities within the Polinema environment must be continually driven and improved in quality. One effort to foster these activities is by providing opportunities and funding for research and community service through both the DIPA (List of Expenditure Implementation) and other funding sources. These efforts are supported by the development of competitive research and community service programs and the dissemination of their results through journals or scientific publications.

The categories of DIPA-funded research at Polinema can be grouped as follows:

  1. Research and development of science and technology.
  2. Development-supporting research.
  3. Institutional development or teaching development research.
  4. Research to enhance the capabilities of teaching staff.

The recommended research within Polinema’s scope is innovative, cutting-edge, and applied research and development of science and technology. The types of research conducted with DIPA funding at Polinema include:

  1. Experimental research: Research conducted through an experiment.
  2. Study research: Research conducted through social, economic, legal, cultural, literature/library, or women’s studies.
  3. Development work research: This includes design research and research on the development of models/systems. Design research focuses on developing process designs or prototypes. Research on the development of models/systems involves developing or analyzing a model.

The fields of study for research conducted at Polinema include:

  1. Mechanical Engineering
  2. Civil Engineering
  3. Chemical Engineering
  4. Electrical Engineering
  5. Accounting
  6. Business Administration
  7. Social/Religious/Language/Humanities/Law

Concentrations/specializations for each of these fields are adjusted based on the criteria (course lecturers) in each department/program of study.

Grant-funded Research

Starting from the year 2011, in accordance with the policy of the Directorate General of Higher Education (Ditjen Dikti), the management authority for certain multi-year research activities has been decentralized to universities through the Decentralized Research Grant Program. This policy is expected to enhance the research culture among lecturers and stimulate the formation of proficient research groups evenly across all universities in Indonesia. Universities are also required to develop flagship research programs to utilize expertise, facilities, and infrastructure within the university in line with the needs of local, national, and international development.

The research grant program in universities is divided into two groups, namely Decentralized Research and National Competitive Research, outlined as follows:

Decentralized Research Grants include:

  1. Outstanding University Research (PUPT).
  2. Competitive Grant Research (PHB).
  3. Fundamental Research (PF).
  4. Postgraduate Team Research (PPS).
  5. Inter-University Collaboration Research (PEKERTI).
  6. Doctoral Dissertation Research (PDD).
  7. Novice Lecturer Research (PDP).

National Competitive Research Grants include:

  1. National Strategic Outstanding Research (PUSNAS).
  2. University and Industry Flagship Research (RAPID).
  3. Foreign Collaboration Research and International Publications (KLN).
  4. Competence Research (HIKOM).
  5. National Strategic Research (STRANAS).
  6. Masterplan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI).
