Research and Innovation

Research and Community Service at Politeknik Negeri Malang are managed by the Technical Implementation Unit for Research and Community Service (UPT-P2M), which is a strategic unit supporting the institution’s vision to enhance the dynamic utilization, mastery, and development of technology and knowledge. This aims to improve human resource quality through the assessment and development of science and technology to solve academic and societal issues.

P2M has the duty to carry out the twofold mission of the higher education tridharma, by realizing: (1) the implementation of high-quality applied research that contributes to productivity enhancement, technology development, and scientific knowledge leading to the achievement of Intellectual Property Rights (HKI), and (2) the implementation of community service that directly benefits and improves community welfare.

The applied strategies are directed towards (1) strengthening research development plans, including conducting research oriented towards appropriate technology, applied technology, and design works; disseminating research results from lecturers/students that reflect industry issues (production processes) and directly benefit society; enhancing research collaboration with industries, other institutions, and research agencies; and (2) community service development plans, including: developing science and technology into products that can be directly utilized; disseminating science and technology products that need to be known and can be beneficial to the community; applying science and technology appropriately according to the situation and demands of community development; providing professional services in various problem areas using expertise not yet possessed by the user community.

Efforts have been made to solidify this role through the organization and strengthening of the P2M institution, especially in the use of information technology as an interface that bridges communication and collaboration with stakeholders, and a database ensuring the documentation of research results and community service activities. This enhances responsiveness to external environmental needs and changes. In line with improved internal performance, various national-level competitive grant activities in the fields of research and community service have been implemented, such as competitive grant research, women’s study, young lecturers, fundamental research, ethics research, national strategic research, vouchers, and others. The publication of research results, community service activities, and other scholarly works will be further enhanced to have tangible implications.
