Senate
The Senate is the body that performs academic deliberation and oversight functions. The responsibilities of the Senate are as follows:
- Providing recommendations for the establishment of proposed academic norms by the director.
- Providing recommendations for the establishment of the code of ethics for academic members proposed by the director.
- Monitoring the implementation of academic norms and the code of ethics for academic members.
- Providing recommendations on academic provisions proposed by the director, including: curriculum for study programs, academic requirements for the granting of academic degrees, and academic requirements for the granting of academic awards.
- Supervising the policies and implementation of academic policies by the director.
- Overseeing the implementation of academic provisions as mentioned in d).
- Monitoring the quality assurance policies and implementation of higher education institutions in accordance with National Education Standards.
- Supervising and evaluating the achievements of the learning process, research, and community service based on the criteria set in the strategic plan, and suggesting improvement proposals to the director.
- Monitoring the implementation of academic freedom, freedom of academic discourse, and scientific autonomy.
- Monitoring the implementation of academic regulations.
- Monitoring the implementation of policies for assessing the performance of lecturers.
- Approving the granting or revocation of academic degrees and awards.
- Providing recommendations to the Director in the appointment of deputy directors.
- Recommending sanctions for violations of norms, ethics, and academic regulations by academic members to the director.
The members of the Senate of Politeknik Negeri Malang consist of: 2 (two) faculty representatives from each department, except for the Department of Electrical Engineering (3 (three) members), 1 (one) representative from the department’s leadership, and the Head of the Center. Senate members from faculty representatives of each department are selected from among the faculty members based on the majority vote and proposed to the Director by the Department Chair for confirmation as Senate members. The balance of the number of Senate members from faculty representatives is maintained proportionally among the departments.
The Chair and Secretary of the Senate are elected from among the members. The election of the Senate Chair takes place during a special Senate meeting. The Senate Chair election meeting is led by the oldest Senate member, accompanied by the youngest Senate member. A Senate meeting is considered valid if attended by at least 2/3 of all Senate members. The meeting’s presiding officer collects at least 2 (two) names of candidates for the Senate Chair from the attending Senate members. The election of the Senate Chair is conducted through a vote. Each Senate member has one (1) vote. The elected Senate Chair is the candidate who receives the most votes. The elected Senate Chair is appointed by the Director. The elected Senate Chair appoints one of the Senate members as the Senate Secretary. Further regulations regarding the requirements and procedures for the election of the Senate Chair are stipulated in the Senate Regulations.
