Educational System

The State Polytechnic of Malang is one of the polytechnics that provides vocational education in several specialized fields. According to Article 15 of Law No. 20 of 2003 on National Education, Vocational Education is higher education that prepares students to possess specific applied skills equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, maximizing their employability. The distinctive feature of the polytechnic education system is the use of a modular system in lectures with a learning process designed to make graduates job-ready. Therefore, this education system must be supported by appropriate teaching methods and materials, covering both hard and soft skills. The learning process for hard skills is achieved through the application of the learning-by-doing concept, encompassing 40% theory and 60% practice delivered through Competency-Based Curricula: 5+1 for Diploma III Programs and 7+1 for Diploma IV Programs. To ensure the learning objectives are met, small class sizes are employed, with a maximum of 30 students per class. Emphasis on soft skills is directed towards nurturing qualities such as honesty, leadership, discipline, teamwork, and smart working capabilities. These characteristics are continuously developed as they have proven successful in overcoming past challenges, are reliable in facing present challenges, and are believed to surpass future challenges. Discipline is instilled through basic disciplinary education at the Military Education Institution during the admission of new students. In accordance with Government Regulation No. 60 of 1999, graduates of Diploma Three programs are awarded the title of Associate Expert, abbreviated as A.Md., while graduates of Diploma Four programs are awarded the title of Applied Science Bachelor, abbreviated as SST. The use of these abbreviated titles is placed after the recipient’s name.
